Lexical Chunk

A lexical chunk is a sequence of words that commonly occur together and are learned and used as a single unit. Examples include collocations (e.g., "make a decision"), fixed expressions (e.g., "by the way"), and idioms (e.g., "spill the beans"). Lexical chunks are important in language learning because they help learners produce more natural and fluent language. Teaching lexical chunks involves exposing students to authentic language use, practicing these chunks in context, and encouraging their use in speaking and writing.
