LEP (Limited English Proficiency)

Limited English Proficiency (LEP) refers to individuals who do not speak English as their primary language and have limited ability to read, speak, write, or understand English. LEP students often require specialized instruction and support to develop their English language skills and succeed academically. Schools and institutions provide services such as English as a Second Language (ESL) programs, language support classes, and bilingual education to help LEP students improve their proficiency and integrate into the mainstream curriculum.
