Adult learning theory. Knowles terms androgogy was defined as the art and science of adult learning. His adult learning theory had four basic principles:
1. Adults should be involved in all stages of their learning process.
2. The material studied should be relevant to their needs.
3. Experience and mistakes should guide the learning process and
4.The learning process should be problem or task based rather than content based.
