GSL (General Service List)

The General Service List (GSL) is a list of the most commonly used words in the English language. Compiled by Michael West in the 1950s, the GSL contains approximately 2,000 high-frequency words that are essential for basic communication and reading comprehension. The GSL is widely used in language teaching and learning to prioritize vocabulary instruction and help learners acquire the core vocabulary needed for everyday communication. Teaching GSL words can significantly improve learners' ability to understand and use English effectively.
