This term is used to define a section of the English language industry that includes courses or curriculums that are designed especially to be used by distinct groups or professions. Common examples of general ESP courses could include scientific English, technical English and business English. The term EAP refers to the teaching or studying of English courses that have a particular focus on areas of the language that are related to academic study, this type of course is one of the more common forms of ESP teaching. As with most English language programs, EAP courses will normally include the teaching of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, however, the course will also include other more specific skills that the student will need in order to succeed in the field of higher education.
