This unit talks about evaluations and testing. The three major ways to assess a student's language level are tutorials, evaluations done by the students, and tests. The tutorials can be done with groups of students or individually and are useful when done on a weekly basis. At the end of each week the teacher can review what work has been done throughout the week, bring up any problems that may have come up, and talk about the goals for the week. When it comes to the evaluations they can be surveys that the students will take to give feedback on the course and the teacher. This is for teachers to know how each student is handling the course. This can help give the teacher insight on what is working and what aspects of the class can be improve. As for the tests, there are different types of exams that serve specific and important purposes. Placement tests are used to find out the level of each student and how to place them into the correct course level for them. Diagnostic tests are used to inform the teacher and the student on what they do and do not know at the start of the course. Progress tests are used throughout the course to track the progress of the students to see what language they do and don't remember. To prepare for this practice tests that follow the same format as the progress tests may be given out to the students. Each type of evaluation and test reviewed in this unit assists both the educator and the learners in knowing where they stand and how to proceed with language learning.
