Unit 19 is a look at the teaching English to special groups that have some commonality beyond just a group of people who want to learn English. The first section deals with beginners which represent a special challenge to teachers. The next section deals with private or individual classes which represent a growing trend in English teaching. The next section covers teaching children, as it also represents a unique challenge compared to all other class types, especially regarding discipline. This is followed by teaching business English and/or English for Special Purpose which are important segments to the TEFL world and have their own requirements. This section goes into great detail regarding the evaluation, course planning, and class conduct of the teacher. The final section presents the teaching of monolingual versus multilingual classes.
I found this unit mostly a review and look back on my years teaching domestically and abroad where I have had every type of class and situation listed. It was fun to review this material and it did offer a number of suggestions that I will use in my next assignment.
