This unit started off with instructions on how to use eye contact, gestures, and the teacher's voice in the classroom. Then it gave the pros and cons of the different ways a teacher could group students within the classroom. Afterwards, the unit went into the topic of classroom arrangement. Classroom arrangements vary but come down to the following: the available space in the classroom, the types of chairs and tables, the age of the students, the nationality of the students, and the student's personalities. There was a sub-topic within the classroom arrangement topic that dealt with the position of the teacher and how it would affect the choice of the classroom arrangement. Next was some tips on how to use the whiteboard and how to give individual attention to students. After that, the unit talked about the various advantages and disadvantages of Teacher Talking Time (TTT) and how it's important to balance TTT with Student Talking Time (STT). Finally, the end of the unit dealt with how to give instructions, how to establish rapport with the students and how to maintain discipline. Overall, I learned a lot from this unit. I had a feeling that TTT and STT had to be balanced, but I did not know how important it really was to balance TTT and STT. Also, during my time volunteering as a teaching assistant in Chile I saw examples of how to maintain discipline within the class and give instructions. So, I know it works from the teachers perspective.
