This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
After working on Unit 3, I have learned a lot about preparing a lesson, and much more about what sorts of content of the lesson needs to go where. Although it may seem like common sense, I feel as though it can be a lot harder to actually do it than to only think about it. I really enjoyed learning about all of the methods and techniques about teaching. However, I do not agree with the suggestopedia method, as I feel as though the students will not take anything away from the activity, rather use it as a time to mess around or not do anything. For my personality, I feel as though the task-based learning or the PPP methods would be best for me to teach to my students, depending on the culture/level of course. The ESA is a great structure to follow, that I will be sure to keep and use in the future! As far as the ESA model, the hardest part for me would be explaining everything in English only, as I am fluent in Spanish. Of course, everybody wants the easy route, but I am going to have to resist using the L2 in my circumstances. Overall, I learned a lot about preparing a lesson for students, as well as correcting the students. I am leaving this Unit with only one doubt: What about activities for children? I am leaving this Unit feeling as though most of the example activities that were provided seemed to be for more young adults or adults... but what about children/ elementary aged children? In general, I learned a lot and enjoyed learning this material.
