This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Teaching new language involves vocabulary, grammatical structures, and functions. The teacher introduces new vocabulary, how the new words fit into sentences and how they are used. When introducing new vocabulary the teachers presents the meaning of the word, its spelling, its pronunciation, where it fits in a sentence and how the word is used. Some guidelines for selecting vocabulary are appropriateness for the students, how often the word might used by the students, and how it might be taught to the students for their level. Teaching new grammar involves how the grammar is used, what does it mean, and how the forms of the grammar might change for past, present and future. Along with vocabulary and grammar the teacher must present how these function in language use. Are they used to agree, invite, reply, describe ans so on.
A straight ESA might suit presenting new vocabulary because it focuses more on the learning of the new words. A boomerang or patchwork ESA might be better suited for teaching functions of new language because it allows more time for the activate phase where the students can employ the new language.
There was not a video on this lesson. I appreciate the videos. For me, they help consolidate and reinforce what I learn from the written lessons.
