This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit is about how to approach different lesson situations. For example with reluctant students or in situations where students are relying too much on their native language, its important to initiate prompting activities in which students feel safe, intrigued and feel more self-confident and motivated to participate. In the first lesson where students dont know eachother its important to focus more on engaging activities, warm-ups and introductions where teacher and students can establish a rapport with eachother rather than focussing on the course book or teaching straight away. This also helps the teacher to establish an idea of students' level of English and help for future classes. If students in the same class have a different level of English you can either let them figure it out themselves, stimulate them or pair them in such a way that they can assist eachother, or develop lesson material suited for different levels. In large classes its important to be clear in vocal and board instructions, to do alot of pair work, choral drilling and worksheets to maximize involvement from each individual student.
