This unit was illuminating for me on several fronts. Teaching methodologies such as Audio-lingualism, grammar-translation, CLL, and The Silent Way, to name a few, gave me an opportunity to determine how I learn a second language, and which methods worked and did not work. Moreover, knowing the various methodologies may help me to conclude the best approach for teaching specific groups or individuals?what suits them/him/her.
I particularly found the Engage-Study-Activate (ESA) model helpful. Recollecting how my former teachers conducted their classrooms, I could see how ESA was practiced. Similar to the examples in this unit, worksheets, word games, art and group activities focused around the language-point were all methods by which I studied and practiced Spanish.
