Types of classes will vary wildly. We can start with two or three year olds all the way to workplace English for a specific purpose in which case the English teacher does not have to be a specialist because we are still at least 90% teaching English. It is important to understand all situations; the absolute, false, adult beginner, young beginner, without Roman alphabet, as they will all have special does and don'ts. Teaching individual one on one classes has a separate list of advantages and non advantages as will teaching children vs adults. ESP or Business English also has a set of unique advantages/disadvantages. Myself I find the field very interesting as well as monolingual vs. multilingual. My biggest takaway from this unit is as a teacher; speak and teach almost exclusively in English. Rarely if ever reverting to L1.
