The unit touches on strategies for introducing new language, breaking it down into grammar, functions and vocabulary, mixing and matching the best activities and phases for teaching each. The ESA method is once again used for this, with grammar and vocab typically employing the Straight-arrow ESA and funcions using the Boomerang or Patchwork ESA patterns. However, a teacher should be flexible and tailor the lessons to student needs and the activities that would most meet them. Vocabulary is an area where the teacher should do some thorough research to determine what will most benefit the students, as there is a great deal of vocabulary to learn; vocab lessons should be tailored to student needs such as whether they require certain vocab for an area of a business or to hold a simple conversation while traveling, etc.
