This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered the different types of assessments that can be used to determine the language level of students as well as what they are retaining from lessons and how well-prepared they are for external exams. The purpose of each type of assessment and exam were detailed and I learned that placement tests and diagnostic tests are similar in that they test the language level of students before they begin an English language course but that placement tests are usually given before the start of a course so the student can be appropriately placed and usually increases in difficulty from beginning to end, whereas diagnostic tests are given to students st the start of a course to test what students already know so the teacher can lesson plan appropriately. I also learned the different types of external exams available to students that are internationally recognized and each has their own purpose, whether for English speakers moving to another country or for those who need to prove their proficiency in business English.
