This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit was short and sweet and to the point, and a good unit to finish the course on. I feel that it covered a lot of the issues teachers of any subject, and especially EFL teachers, run into quite commonly. It is obviously not a comprehensive list of difficulties and solutions, as clearly that would be impossible to cover. However, it provides a good basis for reference for future difficulties one will experience while teaching English abroad. One thing that I would mention that I was disappointed not to see, is that while speaking about difficulties students have with listening to tapes, it was not mentioned that making it visual is beneficial. With today's technology, playing a Youtube video or something similar is a better option than just playing an audio recording. Studies have shown that we retain less information if we are simply hearing it than we do if we are hearing AND seeing it. Many are visual learners, and listening to and understanding a simple audio recording is difficult even for the best of us. I struggle listening to audio books because without a visual anchor, I am unable to focus and therefore don't retain most of what I'm hearing. This is extra true for those learning the language they are listening to. So I feel that whenever you next update your course content, this suggestion should be included.
