This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
It was genuinely painful to watch the first lesson. Being able to feel the flatness of that atmosphere and see how teacher involvement changes the student engagement was very useful, though. The only thing I would have suggested for the teacher in the second lesson was a bit less teacher-talk time and a bit more student interaction and engagement between students. However, that may have led to the students reverting into their L1, while the teacher talk-time requires them to think in L2.
Being able to see the classroom environment and the clear difference in activity is helpful. It will keep me alert of any atmospheric differences in the classroom so that if I feel it going flat, I know that I need to respond and that I'm doing something incorrectly.
