This unit covered the different materials you could use in a classroom to supplement teaching and the pros and cons of using a course book. There are are authentic materials, which is anything a native speaker would read or hear like a newspaper, and created materials, which is what the teacher makes to supplement or replace work from a course book like a crossword puzzle, and it's a good idea to use a mix of both. Some advantages of using a course book are that it is laid out and efficient which is helpful for an inexperienced teacher, but disadvantages are that it can get predictive and boring, as well as be very general and not doesn't always fit the needs or interests of the students.
