This unit examined the Receptive Skills: reading and listening. It delved into the motives, mechanisms and potential problems in reading and listening for language learners and provided a detailed outline of a Receptive Skills Lesson, as well as sample text and worksheets. The tasks at the end of the unit called for developing ESA lessons for reading and listening and while doing so I felt comfortable in what I had learned from the unit. I constructed plans that would have fairly broad appeal, contained provisions to overcome possible problems, and emphasized reading/listening while maintaining a reasonable balance with speaking/writing.
