The ongoing evaluation of students is important for both the student and the teacher. It gauges what the students language abilities are, and to see if they are on level or not. A continual assessment should be made using various methods as outlined in this unit. There are different ways in which to do this, such as evaluation (by the students), tutorials and testing. Testing is used at different intervals during the curriculum, and can be informal or informal. Placement tests are given before a class takes place to measure the students language abilities in order to group him/her according to their language ability. Progress testing is used to understand what the student remembers and should encompass all the language abilities (speaking , writing, listening and reading). Using practice tests for external examinations helps prepare the student for what they might encounter. This is all relevant to the teacher and will help him/her to make decisions and create a testing pattern best suited for the students.
