This unit is about the two receptive skills for a language, reading and listening. We read and listen for different reasons. Sometimes we read or listen so we can understand something in detail. Other times we read and listen so we can just get a general idea of what the conversation is about. These skills are equally important because to know a language and be able to use the language we must practice both. A good lesson with require students to practice both of these skills as well as their productive skills. For a successful lesson we need to pick topics the students are interested in so that they have an interest really reading and listening thoroughly. The task must also be to the students level, neither to difficult or too easy so as to challenge the students but not overwhelm them.
