Unit Nine; Coursebooks and lesson materials.
Unit nine deals with coursebooks and lesson materials. One of the chief dichotomies is between authentic and created materials and the various advantages and disadvantages of the teacher employing them or incorporating them into the lesson. Regarding authentic materials we learn that because they are real students find them more interesting and motivating. In addition students gain confidence from them and they can be geared towards the interests of students.
Created materials we learn are those that are created by the teacher to replace or supplement materials from a course book. The unit also delves into the best uses of course books and the various other lesson materials and some of their advantages and disadvantages as well.
What I learnt from this unit and found fascinating about it is how a lot depends on just how creative the individual teacher is in putting together the materials for a given lesson.
