This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit introduces the two receptive skills: listening and reading. We read and listen to information for a purpose and for entertainment. There are different ways we pick up information while doing this. We predict what the content will be like based on an introduction, headline or title. We also scan information for specific information that we are looking for. We skim information to get the general idea of content. We listen in a more concentrated manner when we need to pick up detailed information. We also deduce the individual meaning of words or phrases from the content's context. Even if a student listens attentively, there are other considerations when learning a new language. A teacher should use written material that suits the level of the students and not give the students content that is too advanced for them.
