Just because a person is able to read or listen doesn't mean they are understanding what they are taking in. They need to be able to understand what the meaning of the statement is and what it is implying. This can be difficult when trying to teach a new language to a group of students. Because of this, there are certain areas that need to be addressed when reading and listening to a language. We learned this in Unit 7. Specialist skills that need to be developed are as follows: predictive skills, scanning info, skimming, reading for detailed info, deduction from text. To help with better understanding pre-teaching of vocabulary, careful selection of texts, interesting topics, creatoing an interest in the topic, and giving tasks make it easier for the student to learn.
