This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 13 provided a great overview of phonology. I took several linguistics classes in college, so this was a wonderful refresher on phonemic symbols and how sounds are made. English pronunciation is very difficult, as the George Bernard Shaw poem showed us, and varies greatly from person to person, as well as textbook to textbook. When I taught English in Spain, they used British textbooks, so the pronunciation and spellings they were taught were different than what I, and southerner from the United States, was teaching them. I had to be mindful of the way I dropped letters and combined sounds. Unit 13 gave us some great techniques in how we can teach pronunciation, and I am sure they will prove useful.
