Reading and listening are receptive skills of a language and they are equally important and teachers should incorporate all receptive and productive skills into their lessons in order to have a balanced approach. I have learned to pre-teach difficult or unknown language and structures prior to commencing a reading or listening activity. I think this is very important because this would help to remove some of the obstacles that students are likely to come across. I have also learned to choose material that interests and motivates the students. Materials that the teacher finds interesting may not be interesting to the students. This is also very important because we want the students to be motivated to learn a new language.
