This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit had video lessons so was helpful in terms of giving an insight into real life classrooms and how the teachers attitude has an effect on student understanding. There were two videos both in contrast with one another. I learnt how to break the ice with students and how to encourage student participation in the class. And that it is important to give instructions clearly and give examples to make sure that students understand what should be done. I learnt that teacher should allow student to student interaction and make use of visual aids such as pictures to keep students interest. The unit discussed auxiliary verbs, with a focus on passive verbs, relative clauses and phrasal verbs. The unit had a mix of fairly simple grammar terms, mixed in with more complex grammar usage. Grammar terms such as passive and active were generally familiar to me, whereas relative clauses, although used quite frequently, were not familiar. I did have difficulty grasping the material related to relative clauses, specifically the difference between defining and non-defining. I didn't feel that it was explained adequately in the unit and feel that more examples could have been provided.
