This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit the material focused on the production of language in speaking and writing. It discussed the importance of both accuracy and fluency in speaking but demonstrated ways that both could be addressed separately so that teachers are not 'jumping in' and correcting mistakes while students are actually using the language and developing their fluency. The unit then discussed creating written pieces and some of the challenges regarding spellings in particular. It was interesting to realize the issue of spelling words that sound the same when spoken but are spelt differently. Waist and waste was an example given but there are many more, ware and where, for and four. I is helpful to be able to predict what issues could arise in a classroom environment.
