This unit examined how the teacher's physical presence can have an affect on the students and effectiveness of the lesson. Eye contact, gesture, and voice are important in establishing a stable and engaging presence. Grouping and arranging the students in different ways depends on many factors, including class size, student personality, and lesson activity, and has many consequences, such as the amount of student talk time and feeling of responsbility. Teachers must be conscientious of what they say in the class, how they say it, and how much they say. They should limit the amount of time they are talking, so as to give students the opportunity to actively engage in the language on their own, but teachers should also remain mindful of advantages of speaking in class. In the classroom, teachers should also be strategic in giving instructions, establishing rapport with and between students, and maintaining discipline.
