This unit talks about the different theories, methods and techniques related to teaching a second language. It starts off by broadly examining the different teaching methods such as Audio-ligualism and PPP, then delving into the specific teaching method of the course, which was created by Jeremy Harmer. ESA uses varying techniques to teach effectively. This method is divided into 3 parts: Engage, Study and Activate. While the course usually begins with Engage and ends with Activate, the middle part can usually be constructed as the teacher deems fit. I have learnt to be able to differentiate clearly between the activities of the 3 different stages. For example, the Engage part focuses son eliciting information and creating interest from the students, therefore games such as Slow Pictionary would be used. Contrarily, Hangman would be used from the Study phase.
