Beginners can be classified into five groups and can also be part of more than one group. Teachers need to be as visual as possible and encourage students to speak in English as much as possible in class. Clear and simple instructions and homework assignments will help students to understand lessons. English should be used as much as possible within the classroom. When teaching one to one, a teacher should do a needs analysis to find out what the student wants from the lesson and what he or she also needs. Even when catering to the student?s interest, the teacher should cover all skills. Young learners are enthusiastic but also need constant praise. Language should be simple and there should be several activities within a lesson to keep them interested. When teaching business English, keep in mind you are there to teach English not business. Students will be worn out because of working the rest of the day. When dealing with multilingual or monolingual students, describe the activities and vocabulary clearly and make sure they have the English to do the activity.
