This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
It took me a long time to get to this unit as I was intimidated by its length. Surprisingly when I got into it I loved all the different suggestions I will be able to use in my Grade 4 International class. I enjoyed the breakdown of ways to teach language. I went to school in the 50's and 60's and college in the early 70's so things tended to still be very traditional as far as learning a language. I was not successful at learning French, which was the required language in Canada but it was all rote and drills. Unfortunately, that memory has stayed with me and made me struggle to learn other languages in the country I am living in such as Chinese and Spanish. I ultimately gave up from probably fear and haven't even attempted to learn Vietnamese. I want to make sure my students do not struggle in the same way learning English. I already have a plan on how I can approach my EAL students in the class.
