This unit covered the topic of teaching receptive skills. Receptive skills, which include activities such as reading and listening, are a vital part of understanding and being able to communicate a new language. Therefore, this chapter was an essential tool as an aspiring TEFL teacher. It touches on the reasons/motivations for why we use receptive skills as well as how we use our receptive skills (i.e. the various ways one might acquire information from reading or listening). Finally, the unit discusses problems a teacher might face with the students' receptive skills and techniques on how to help motivate the students and build their confidence in the area as well.
