Conditionals and reported speech can be very tricky to both teach and learn. Conditionals are tricky, because it's not always easy to decide which one to use when, while mixed conditionals can be hard to spot. The reason for reported speech being hard to teach/learn are many changes in tenses and pronouns that have to occur in order to convey a correct meaning of the original statement.
I will find it particularly challenging to teach reported speech, because it is necessary for all students to have polished the knowledge of tenses prior to this topic. Accordingly, not all students will be equally up to speed, and some might need an extra push.
Despite the potential trickiness, I find both conditionals and reported speech fun to learn and teach.
