Whilst receptive skills are important for student's comprehension and level of understanding, productive skills are important for students to be able to actively communicate. This includes focusing on accuracy in speaking and writing, as well as fluency in reading and writing. Accuracy is important as the student will need to practice English without any flaws. Fluency requires more active participation and student influence on language output so that conversational adequacy is achieved. Fluency requires more creativity in teaching whereas accuracy will usually require focus on repetition or drilling.
