This unit is all about troubleshooting; what to do when you, as a teacher, find yourself in a difficult situation. Some potential problems include large class sizes, reluctant students, difficulties with listening activities, use of native language and the varying English levels. One major concern of mine is having students at many levels in the same class. To counteract this problem, this unit has a few solutions. Such as using different materials but the same topic for the appropriate levels, pairing the stronger students with the weaker ones (making sure they both have equal output), and using the same materials but assigning different tasks. Another important issue to address is how to deal with reluctant students. If the students feel more comfortable speaking English, they will gradually become less reluctant to learn. Some ways of creating a positive, relaxed learning environment include allowing the students to work in pairs, using controlled practice, and role plays.
