Unit 5 focused on methods of organizing the classroom; identifying reasons for and preventing disruptive behavior; pros and cons of different groupings; the importance of eye contact, gestures, voice, and establishing rapport with the students; giving instructions; and the advantages and disadvantages of teacher talk time and how to maximize student talk time. What I took away in particular from this lesson was the importance of eye contact, gestures, and voice in the classroom and to avoid using elevated, complicated, or wordy instructions to activities so the students understand better and so teacher talk time is reduced.
