In addition to the Receptive Skills, there are also the productive skills of speaking and writing. These are important for communication. However, writing suffers as being the most neglected skill while speaking is more preferred. Communication is taught using Accuracy or Fluency activities. Accuracy activities fall under the study component of the ESA. They are controlled and focus on language correction. Fluency activities fall under the activate component and allow for creativity and experimentation with language.
