This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The contents of this unit discuss types of materials to use in class. The two types are authentic and created materials. Authentic materials are real and can be geared toward a specific group of students. Authentic materials are materials such as textbooks. Created materials are materials that the teacher makes such as flash cards or crossword puzzles. These materials are often used to supplement or reinforce a specific part of a text book.
The most important thing that I learned from this unit, were the various kinds of created material available. I had never thought of some of the concepts in this unit such as role playing cards. This unit does a great job of showing both an abundance of pros and cons for both text books and created material. Overall, I enjoyed this unit. It was nice to get some refreshing ideas and learn a little more about the advantages and disadvantages of the materials used in a classroom.
