This section covered evaluation and testing. Students and teachers both need to understand the way the students are progressing through their English education. Often this is required by the school or school district, but sometimes it is simply useful to have a more formal way of delivering feedback.
In addition to testing the students, students should also be able to evaluate the teacher. It?s good to see how students feel about the lesson, if they think anything could be improved or if they think the work is too easy or too hard.
There are many different types of tests and reasons to give them. Placement tests are meant to help teachers put students in the right class for their level. Referring to the previous books can help teachers create a placement test. Progress tests are meant to test how students are progressing ? including what they remember or have forgotten from previous tests. Diagnostic tests are used to gauge how much of the course material the students already know. Practice tests are used before a more formalized state or national exam to get a feel for the testing style and the aspects students need to work on. For English, these exams are TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, or the Cambridge Assessment.
