This Unit comprehensively covers issues relating to the use and relevance of materials and teaching aids in the classroom. The variety of teaching aids enables the teacher to provide his/her students with alternatives to reliance on the textbook. It has been shown that visual aids, such as overhead projectors and the like, increase the interest and effectiveness of a lesson. Resources found in the classroom often include a white board (or IWB), cassette or DVD player, video camera/smart phone, dictionaries and other resource books, computers and photocopies, for example. A list of on-line resources is given which the ESL teacher can access to obtain ideas and provide students with sites of known reputation and usefulness.
