This unit is about classroom management and gives a summary of teaching methods and behaviour helpful to control, maneuver and motivate your students. The use of students' names, of one's eyes, voice and gestures as well as grouping students individually, in pairs, groups or the class as a whole, is paramount in creating a positive classroom atmosphere and good rapport with your class, so that learning can take place at its' best. The chapter teaches you about the importance of classroom arrangement (i.e. the positioning of students in relation to their teacher as well as each other) and reflects on what to avoid when writing on the board. Finally, it stresses the importance of student talk time versus teacher talk time (the latter should be kept to an absolute minimum, unless you are in the study phase) and raises awareness on how to best give instructions and establish a healthy rapport with your students, as well as how to respond when facing problem behaviour.
