In this unit, brief concepts about speaking and writing were touched upon. Speaking and writing are the productive skills of language learning, and are therefore, more complex to control as a teacher. Speaking and writing are equally important to an individual, and both have their positive and negative aspects. For example, writing requires more accuracy, whereas speaking requires more fluency. Both skills require an understanding of the language and the practical production of the lanugage, using that understanding. There are three types of speaking activities: controlled, guided, and creative communication, with each level decreasing in teacher control. The most useful piece of information I personally received from this unit was the reminder that I need to decide my aims for students and why.
