Teaching students correct pronunciation is a vital part of learning a new language. English language students find pronunciation the hardest part of acquiring their new language. To teach pronunciation effectively it is important that students learn the position of the tongue, lips and teeth for each sound they must produce. One way to get students to pronounce words correctly is to spell them using the international phonemic alphabet. Alongside pronunciation, students must also become aware of intonation within words and sentences. Learning where the stresses fall within words and sentences will generate meaning for the listener.
