This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I learned a lot about intonation and stress in this chapter. I can see how it would be useful for students, especially as they are wanting to become more proficient with English, to be able to understand intonation, stress, and fine tuning pronunciation. The chapter points out that not every student cares so deeply about sounding like a native speaker, so for some it is important to make sure that they are able to communicate effectively even if there are some difficulties with pronunciation. Other students who are using English for professional purposes may want to delve further into the subject of intonation, stress, and pronunciation. It was interesting to learn that some teachers may devote an entire class to this subject, others devote a portion of regular class time each day, while still others only address the subject as it comes up. The review of the phonetic alphabet was fun for me, and I can see how it would be a useful tool for teaching pronunciation.
