This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit examines the advantages and disadvantages of using course books and materials in lessons as well as pointing out the factors that should be considered when choosing a course book for your class (if you are given the choice to choose one yourself). While course books can create a good structure for your class and offer continuous building progression in lessons and help the inexperienced teacher, they can also allow teachers to become a bit lazy and less creative. Authentic materials, especially for more advanced students, can be much more interesting and worthwhile for students to use and help them gain more confidence with the language. Course books can become repetitive and boring. A mixture of creating your own activities as a teacher to fit the specific needs and interests of the students with the structured materials offered by a course book is necessary in order to keep students interested and continuously learning in different types of ways.
