This unit was the last unit of the course. The topic was troubleshooting and it covered various problems teachers may face. In the first section on first lessons I learned the best ways to have a first lesson. Although I have done introduction classes before, this reinforced the need for establish rapport with the students and between the students. Doing this right off the bat should make the course run smoother overall. The next section was on different kinds of warmers. The next was on how to deal with students at different levels. I think that this is one of the most difficult things that teachers face. Although the idea of pairing stronger and weaker students had been mentioned before, I also learned about preparing different materials. Often having students at different levels is unavoidable so I found this section very useful. There were also sections on large classes and the use of native language. I find in my classes that native language is often used to clarify the instructions. Hopefully I can simplify instructions in the future to avoid this. Lastly, the course covered reluctant students and listening texts. I like the idea of having extra materials for students that finish early. It will keep them from getting board and hopefully encourage them to continue learning more.
