Using materials and course books in the English language learning classroom can be an important asset if used correctly. When choosing materials, the teacher can opt to use either authentic or created materials. Authentic materials tend to interest students more, but are not graded to the students' levels so can come off as difficult for lower levels. Created materials can cater to the level and need of students, but can be boring if not used correctly. There are advantages and disadvantages to using course books as well. When using a course book, it is important to remember to supplement, omit, replace and adapt lesson when needed.
