Using tests and exams is a great way to asses students progress through-out the term, identify language levels of new students, and help the teacher know what the students already know. Practice tests also help prepare students for external exams. It's also important to remember that you can use evaluation by the students to evaluate the course and ensure that all there hopes for the course are for-filled. Tutorials can be used to discuss aims of the lesson and how well the students performed the tasks, it is also an important time to provide individual and group feedback to the class. In terms of external examinations there are a range of different exams offered by Cambridge and other institutions, so its important to be aware of the students motivation to study english if they ask for advice on exams.
