This unit used two different video-taped English classes to demonstrate two different classes. The first class was not an example of a good class for several reasons. Some of these reasons included the teacher's disconnectedness from the students and his lack of interest in their comfort and understanding. He seemed glum and bored, so the students responded in the same way. He continually told the students that certain concepts were easy, so the students were too intimidated to respond. In the second lesson, the teacher made an effort to get to know every student's name and include each one in the lesson. He made sure they were engaged and understood the concepts he was teaching. He made it a fun, invigorating atmosphere in which the students felt comfortable. He also praised the students for answering questions and contributing. This unit was useful in putting these TEFL / TESOL lessons into action so I could see first-hand what a good English lesson can look like.
